The 'Open with' dialog box appears at startup

Each time I turn on my computer the Windows desktop presents me with an 'Open with' window that says 'Click on the program you want to open the Windows file with'. What does this mean and how can I remedy it?

The most likely explanation is that there is a faulty or orphaned shortcut in the Windows StartUp folder. To check this click on Start, Programs, then right-click StartUp on the menu and select Open from the pop-up menu. If the culprit is here, it probably won't have a proper icon and, if you try to run it, it will display the same 'Open withà' message that's bothering you. If you find an item like this, delete it and all should be well.
